Words of Power

Do you ever use words or phrases like:

“Capitalist” or “the rich” and have negative thoughts?

Do you ever feel jealous of other people when you hear of their increase in wealth from a win, will, pay rise, or the creation of their own business?

Do you ever feel envious or jealous of their success and increase in wealth?

These are mindsets that need banishing. The more that you are happy for people when you hear of the large amounts of money they earn or acquire the more you feel happy and feeling happy feels good, therefore you will feel happy more. You will also be focusing of their success rather than feeling bad about something wonderful that has happened for them.

If you have envious or jealous feelings when thinking about money you are having negative associations about money, that is bad and again needs banishing and replacing with happiness for other people’s success.

Do you focus on the lack? Do you focus on what you don’t have or the debts you do have?

If you are spending your time looking for lack you will find it! If you spend your time focused with confidence and tenacity upon becoming rich you will find that.

How much power do you let words have over you?

It is important to recognize how you feel with regards to words that describe concepts about wealth, riches and money.

If I say to you: “Tax free”. How does it make you feel? For most people the phrase ‘tax free’ gives them a good feeling.

What about if I say: “The tax man”? Do you have the same kind of feelings? The phrase ‘the tax man’ gives most people a negative feeling.

If it’s too large a leap to have a good feeling when thinking about the tax man then have a neutral feeling boarding on happy. Take out the emotional sting to it. (You can use the N.L.P Spinning technique Created by Dr Richard Bandler for this)

What about words like:

  • Investment banker
  • Money
  • Gold
  • Hedge fund
  • Born with a silver spoon…
  • Funds
  • Tax
  • Finance
  • Rich Kid

How do these words make you feel? What power do they have over you?

Knowing the thought patterns of the rich and actually thinking that way are two very different things. You can use the N.L.P Spinning Technique to remove negative feelings around money.

You can’t have what you want, if you don’t REALLY know what that is!

Ready to startMost people dream of being rich, but dreaming of being rich is not enough. A dream is just that, it’s not real, a definite plan is needed.

Most importantly, you need to have a clear vision of exactly what you want

It may seem like an obvious and easy thing to say: ‘know what your dream is’. But the truth is for many people, they are not really clear on what it is that they want.

(Also, to call your future plans a ‘dream’ is to suggest to your mind that it is just that, a dream, i.e. not real!)

To want to be rich is not enough, money won’t magically appear. You need to know how you are going to achieve that money and to be truly wealthy you need even more.

I am fond of believing the maxim, do more of what you enjoy. Do more of what makes you and the people around you happy. Then you are happy and all the people that are around you are happy. Sounds great, right?

The thing is some people will tell me that they don’t want to go to work tomorrow, or that they don’t ever want to go to work again, and if they, ‘only do what they enjoy’ they wouldn’t go to work tomorrow, wouldn’t be able to pay the bills etc… nice idea but it wouldn’t work for me!

The thing I have to remind them is that some things are not immediate. I explain to them that if they do nothing, this time next year they will still be doing the same job they don’t enjoy and be a year older. But if they decide to do something about it, this time next year they could be in a position to follow the maxim: do more of what you enjoy. Unfortunately most people just don’t do that, they just don’t plan for their future (much beyond what’s on T.V tonight or their next holiday). Some people do have some longer-term plans, like maybe a company pension!

However, there are some people who make sure that they have an exact idea of where they want to be (or how they imagine their life being) in 5 years time. Being sure in your mind of the things you would like to be doing in 5 years time is something that will make you more like the people who have the most fun, happiness and success on planet Earth, a person with a clear vision.

If you don’t have a clear idea of where you would like to be in 5 years it probably means that you have never really answered the question and taken the time to make it really clear and then start to make plans to get there.

So, how do you clarify your vision?

– First, be grateful for what you have right now because you are already wealthy!

Like attracts like, if you appreciate the wealth you have right now and are thankful for it, you will not only feel instantly wealthier (which feels way better than feeling bad about your wealth), you will also attract more wealth.

– The next thing that you are going to explore is what it is that really gets you passionate. What it is you really want to achieve?

Your vision is just that, it’s yours… there are no set wrong or right answers, you need to be honest with yourself to be truly wealthy and focus on what makes you happy.

I have heard people tell me their plans or aspirations for their future but on questioning it turns out this isn’t what they really want, it isn’t what they are excited and passionate about. Most of the time it is an “achievable” plan for their future, limited by negative thoughts on what is “realistic”.

Some level of realism is needed, but people put too many limitations on themselves which doesn’t help them to realise their true visions and potential.

A great process that will help you to really get clarity on what it is that you want is the ‘Green Light / Red Light’ thinking process. In fact this is a great thinking process for any kind of big decision making… so start using it today and see what a difference it makes.

‘Green Light / Red Light’ Thinking

Green Light thinking means coming up with ideas and not judging them, just coming up with ideas and writing them all down.

After a good nights sleep, you then apply ‘Red Light’ thinking to your ideas. Go through it and knock out all of the things that you didn’t judge when you were writing your list but are just not appropriate. But remember having these ideas, that may not be appropriate themselves, probably led you on to other thoughts that you wouldn’t otherwise have thought of and some of these you will keep.

The idea is to get the critical part of your mind out of the way while you answer the questions you need answering. Just thinking about what you would do if you could do anything and then write it down. Then thinking about ways you would achieve that.

It’s true that most people never do this; it’s also true that most people work for someone else for their whole life. The people who choose to do these kinds of things are the people who generally tend to work for themselves. Coincidence? I don’t think so!

Step One: Write down (Green Light Thinking) everything that you are passionate about, everything that you could do that would make your life better. Everything! eg: earn more money.

Step Two: Leave it and walk away (preferably overnight).

Step Three: Apply Red Light Thinking to your list of thing that you are passionate about and keep the things that you are really excited about.

Step Four: Repeat this process with how you are going to achieve each of the steps.

In the next article in this series I’m going to show you how to use a strategic planning tool and lock your goals in place…

In this audio you will hear me mention the motivation trance from this months Trance Club (but this is a stand alone audio that will explain to you how to create a motivation anchor and utilize it).

A Short Introduction to NLP Anchoring

An anchor is a stimulus response, a Pavlovian response, after the Russian scientist Pavlov and his eponymous dogs. In his legendary experiment, Pavlov set about linking sound to the pleasure and expectation of food in the minds of his canine subjects. By simply ringing a bell before feeding the dogs, over a period of time, he succeeded in building up a link in the dog’s minds between the sound of a bell and food. Eventually the sound of the bell ringing would cause a response in the dogs; they would salivate and come running looking for food, even though they could neither see nor smell it. The animals had built up an association with a certain frequency, volume, and tone to their reward, food. Unlike in the above example, an anchor can become established without a direct reward and without long periods of time for conditioning in order for them to become fully established; best of all it does not just work with dogs!

Words are also anchors. The sound made, – called a ‘word’ – is linked inside the mind to an experience or many experiences of said ‘word’. For example: ‘Successful’ is a word that has many meanings, all of those meanings that you can think of are ones that you have attached to the word. A word like ‘money’ is a noun, it names objects, things that exists in reality; we have all seen money, heard money, felt money and maybe smelt and possibly in some instances even tasted money! All five senses can be engaged in exploring exactly what the object known as ‘money’ is. However, if I asked you to imagine ‘money’ right now there are many variables in your imagination of ‘money’ and they will differ to that of mine and of another person. For example: is your money coins or notes? What currency is it? How much is there? Are you holding the money, just looking at it or are you not even in the picture? Everyone will have a different representation of money and yet these are all accepted as something we identify as money, something we have all seen and heard etc.

However, when we consider words like ‘happiness’, ‘excitement’, ‘learning’ or indeed ‘success’ and ‘motivation’; words that do not relate to real or concrete objects, we cannot even begin to imagine how different the meanings are that we attach to such words compare to those of other people.

In Pavlov’s classic experiment he linked a sound to a feeling; the two had no connection other than occurring at the same time. What we can do with the N.L.P technique of anchoring is to elicit a feeling and deliberately associate the powerful feelings of motivation to whatever we choose and become motivated to do it. We can deliberately program our brains to be more successful.
